Alex Smee

Alex is 28 and lives in Berkshire. He began his aviation career in 1989 as an airfield bum at Shoreham and fostered an early interest in aerobatics in the back seat of a Chipmunk and Harvard, and by loitering in the vicinity of Pitts and Extras in Mike Fenton's Specialist Aircraft Services hangar. This was followed by a three year stint in Flight Ops at White Waltham and then a season as a tug pilot at Booker Gliding Club.

Since gaining his PPL in 1996 Alex has flown a variety of aeroplanes including Pitts S1/S2, Yak 50, Super Cub, Pawnee and Turbulent. Alex began competition flying in 2000 in the old faithful G-STUA, winning the Intermediate national title in 2002. When not asleep in an armchair, Alex enjoys cycling and snorkelling, and when conditions permit, both of these things simultaneously.
