Eric Marsh
Eric Marsh is 64 in 2007, married to Liz and has four grown kids, none of
whom are dedicated aviators. He has been in the hospitality business since
1960, and proprietor of the renowned Cavendish Hotel on Chatsworth Estate in
the Peak District of Derbyshire since 1975 and the George Hotel at nearby
Hathersage since 1996. He started flying in 1976,
and recently achieved 1000 hours in command. Aircraft previously owned include
two Socata Tobagos, a Slingsby Firefly, a Piper Cherokee, two Skybolts and
three Vans, one an RV4 completed in 1998 and which he still flies, the
second an RV6 completed in 2004, and now an RV8 which is expected to fly
in 2007.
Interesting types flown include a Jet Provost (only pilot ever to fly a jet
in BAeA contest), Shorts Tucano, Pitts 12, YAK C11, Extra 300, Bucker Jϋngmann,
Golden Eagle, B737 simulator and Super Puma helicopter ~ with aerobatics in
all but the Golden Eagle.
Eric has been a member of BAeA since 1985, when he was coached by Alan Wade
and competed in their Slingsby T67M. Alas even after many years at Standard
Level he never achieved a win, although reaching the runner up slot on
numerous occasions, including second place in his Skybolt in the 1988 Tiger
Trophy.
Conversely, Eric is an experienced Contest Director, usually running
(amongst others) the unlimited and advanced National Championships, winning
him BAeA Contest Director of the Year on several occasions.
Eric has been a member of the BAeA Board of Directors Committee since 1988,
including a spell as vice chairman under Nick Buckenham in the 1990s.
