- Nick Buckenham
- Advanced British Aerobatic Champion 1997/8
Nick is 59 years old,
married to Jen (BAeA Membership Secretary!) and has one daughter. A Chartered Mechanical engineer by profession he is
technical director of a vending machine manufacturing company in Northern
Ireland. Nick has held a PPL
for 15 years and - after seeking an alternative to airfield coffee tasting - discovered
aerobatics in 1989. A few years in a Pitts-S1 was followed by much gyrating in
the first (and rather gaudy!) Yak-55M in the UK, some in displays but mostly at
BAeA advanced competitions. He was chairman of the British Aerobatic Association
for eight years from 1991, and competed as a British team member in the 1997 Advanced World Aerobatics
Championship in the USA, in Slovenia in '98, in the Czech Republic in '99
(10th place, and a Team Bronze medal) and the somewhat rainy 2000 event at
Grossenhein in Germany. Nick is also (occasionally...) an accomplished aerobatic
glider pilot.
