Nick Onn
Aged 37, Nick is single and lives in South East London where he is a
self-employed raised flooring contractor. After learning to fly in 1979 at Booker, he
progressed almost immediately on to aerobatics.
Nick's aerobatic career began in 1981 in France in a CAP10 and this was
followed in the UK in the Tiger Club's Stampe. A spell in the Royal Navy which was
followed by some TV Commentating meant a break in Aerobatics until a few years later, when
he bought a share in a Pitts special. Eventually graduating to Unlimited Level in 1987, he
was first selected to the British Team in 1990, but an engine failure, and successful
forced landing, en route to the World Championships excluded him on that occasion. In 1992
Nick entered the Championship in a hired Cap 231. Following this, a Stephens Akro was
purchased, but after only 35 hours, this was replaced by a share in a Sukhoi Su26m
together with 1995 team member, Tim Barnby.
Of all the team members, Nick, with around 680 hours is the least
experienced in terms of numbers of hours flown. Nonetheless, he has consistently made the
grade and will feel quite at home in World Class Contests. Outside of flying, Nick's
interests include Skiing, Squash and writing.
