British National Std & Int Championships -
1998
Contest Director's Note
Blessed by truly fantastic CAVOK weather and two days of blazing sunshine, the
third Flyer Magazine
Standard level and the BAeA Intermediate level Championships provided intensely
close competition
amongst a group of pilots whose average scores seem to rise inexorably year by
year.
Following his clean sweep at Fenland, John Askew continued to show the rest of
the standard group a
clean pair of heels throughout, whilst in the Intermediate class last year's
standard champion Mark
Walden led off in fine style but was just pipped at the post by Martin
Sandford's determined recovery
from a second place start.
Chief Judge Bob Oliver's team was Christelle Robineau, Tony Lloyd, Brian
Webberly, Dick Happs and
Graham Hill, Jen Buckenham was registrar and posted all the scores, and yours
truly ran the shop.
It was a privilege to be there - if only all contests could be this much
fun! Roll on Seething...
