The Standard and Intermediate
National
Championships - 1999
CD's note
Blazing weather (for the second year running!) allowed this competition to
proceed in glorious
style, with 99 sequences flown at a spanking pace between Friday lunch-time and
the Saturday
17:30 conclusion. As so often happens, there were some star performances from
middle ranking
competitors whilst one or two front runners spoilt their chances with a zero or
two... but in
the end those who got it right most came out at the head of the queue.
Relative newcomer Adrian Howe certainly worked hard for the Standard Champions'
slot, also flying
as safety pilot with the other Slinger drivers - quite a full weekend! In
Intermediate long-time
Pitts/Laser/Stampe maestro Nick Bloom only just managed to stay ahead of the
similarly well-
experienced Pitts driver Ron Allen, with fast rising newbie Graham Archer
snapping at their heels.
Steve Green ran a tight judging line, Jen Buckenham registered and computed, and
I thoroughly
enjoyed my annual slot of MBWA (management by walking about...). In all, a great
competition in
excellent company. Time to move up, some people!
