The CAACI and Celtic Trophies - 1999
This years Irish round was held in Waterford on the south-east coast. The
Saturday forecast of
a mid-day
deterioration in weather had everyone ready for an early start.
The group I's were finished with only just enough blue bits to see the last
advanced pilot
yo-yo between
the clouds. With a poor forecast for the rest of the weekend, we expected that a
result would have to be
declared on the Knowns alone. However, a majority voted to wait on Sunday's
weather in the hope to fly again.
Chief judge Gareth Roberts would have to leave Sunday morning and would hand
over his duties to Paul van Lonkhuyzen. The Sunday brought a nice surprise in weather and there were only
occasional passing CB's in the afternoon. The group III's were completed by lunch time. The weatherman
got it wrong again but
at least this time it was in our favor. Let's hope the trend continues.
