The advanced and unlimited brigade had no cross-country problems on the 26th, and the 'Q' for
both levels was comfortably run after the RAF's range closed for business at 5pm. Friday 27th
however was a complete Wx wipe-out, which unfortunately kept most of the intermediate's at home,
making Saturday largely the province of the top two levels. Cloud altercations affected both
Alan Cassidy and Tom Cassells, the latter scampering home by the slenderest of margins to secure
the Nathaniel Alony Trophy and hence the South Wales Championship. Mark Jefferies kept Nick
Buckenham in a consistent second place at advanced, whilst Ron Allan had a relatively easy ride
following Mark Janney's fuel fumbles and subsequent 'wrong-way' known. Been there, done that! In
the four-minute freestyle ex-Chairman Nick B edged the lumbering Yak just a shade ahead of Alan's
new '232, Mark Jefferies' smoke not swaying the judging line in his favour at all.
Eric Marsh directed the usual slick ground operation, Jen Buckenham ran a swift results service,
Steve Green's judging crew were Bob Oliver, Ian Scott and Chairman Ben, and Pembrey Airport
turned out to be a truly excellent venue for the whole affair. We will return!
