The Advanced and Unlimited
National
Championships - 2000
Despite a best-ever entry with ten unlimited and fifteen advanced competitors,
four days of truly dreadful low-visibility haze and soggy on-the-deck cloud,
rain and the promise of embedded CB's put paid to any prospect of running the
2000 advanced and unlimited British National Championships at Sywell. Many
pilots tried and failed to make the trip. Those who were successful inevitably
spent their time honing skills in all manner of diversionary fill-in pursuits
quite unconnected to the flying or judging of high-performance aerial machinery
engaged in the gentle art of Aresti aerobatics.
At the final 0900 briefing on the fourth (Sun(we
saw it briefly!))day, CD Eric Marsh as expected called a halt to the
(non)-proceedings. Even some discussions aimed at defining an alternative
affair later in the year had not reached a successful conclusion, although of
course if this line of enquiry does achieve acceptable status we will publish
all here. Not a good time - unusual, even in England!
