The British National Glider
Aerobatics Championships - 2001
The Glider Aerobatic National Competition was held at
Saltby on 31st May to 3rd June. The traditional September date was changed
to allow our 'Unlimited ' pilots to train, practice and prepare for
the World Championship in Spain on June 18th to 30th.
Glider Aerobatics in the UK has grown steadily over the last 10 Years and
this year 5 pilots will represent in Spain.
The Sports class at Saltby attracted a record 10 entries , flying 5
different types of glider. Competition was very strong with some
programmes scoring over 80%. The strong winds and low cloud base were well
managed and contributed to a close final result.
Congratulations to this years winners, Jamie Allen (Unlimited), John
Gilbert (Intermediate) and Ashley Benjamin (Sports).
Saltby will be hosting an end of season Open Aerobatic competition on September
the 8th and 9th. Ray Stoward |
