CD's Report I am not, as regular readers, both of them, will confirm very complimentary about the general weather picture at Saltby, having presided over one complete washout and several truncated contests ... so the drive up the A1(M) on the day before the Open in bright sunshine was a pleasant surprise. I was even more surprised to watch the cloud which hung about at 1,500ft climb and disappear by about 11am. So by opening time we were very much ahead of the game. Far enough ahead to have a discussion about what we were going to do to keep the pilots amused having completed the contest flights well before lunch on the second day. And so the "FunFree" was born. There were some interesting programmes, the most original of which was Graham Saw's with a performance consisting entirely of rolling circles which, for reasons I can't recall, was not scored by the judges. Prize-giving took place with His Grace the Duke of Rutland, an active member of Saltby doing the honours, ahead of the Bar-B-Q which was well attended and of the usual high standard. Full results are below. The Beginners Plaque went to Trevor Dale, David Gethin won the Sports and was runner up for the open, and David Gibbs took the Open Trophy and the Intermediate. Thank you to all at Saltby for your
enthusiasm and hard work. P.S Hope to see Jyrki Viitasaari "The
inverted Finn" next year |
