The Dan Smith Memorial Trophy - 2014

Contest Directors Report
Dan
Smith disappointment again ..... not snow this year, but horrid, persistent warm-front low cloud.
Early
on Saturday it all started deceptively well. The first four of the 17 entrants had a clear 4,000 feet and flew the full Sports known sequence.
George
Rizk was particularly impressive with a very tight and well-positioned flight, scoring 77%.
Milos
Rambert, well-known display pilot and one of our five Czech visitors, fell victim to the first of the low cloud that drifted in, and Paul Conran, at number six, had to abandon his aero-tow half way up ... and that was it.
The
weather forecast was rotten so we made the best of a great evening, with dinner in the restaurant and an international gathering in the bar. Early Sunday however we had to scrub the event, there was just no other option.
Such a shame to get everything and everyone in place and then be frustrated. There is a move afoot to re-schedule soon!
A
big thank you to all who managed, judged and tried to compete .... and a particular apology to our noble Czech friends for the bloody English weather again!
