Good afternoon from Granada,
The final results have been declared for WAC. The medal places have not changed, with the individual medals for Male pilots going to Alonso, Ecalle and Mamistov and to Kapanina, Boulanger and Klimovich for the Female pilots. Team medals were: Male: France, Spain, Russia. Female: Russia, USA. (only two teams of three pilots).

  Placings for British Pilots:

Unk-2

O/all

  Gerald Cooper 7 8
  Mark Jefferies 6 9
  Tom Cassells 34 22
  Nick Onn 29 27
  Kester Scrope   43
  Richard Gee   46

The British Team were fifth behind the USA in fourth place for the Male team medals.

Gerald had been awarded five out penalties (150 points) in the Second Unknown and Mark two. These were reduced to two for Gerald and one for Mark following an appeal by our team, so their rank order in the final standings and in the Second Unknown has changed slightly.

So we have two Brits in the top ten at the Word Championships. That is a tremendous performance. We also have a very strong team which puts us in an excellent position to challenge and win medals at the European Championships next year. All of our pilots have trained hard and prepared very well for this contest. The result is that they are now competitive at World level as individuals and as a team. Great credit must go to Tom and

David for taking the initiative to build a full team for the WAC and for David's hard work via the British Aerobatic Foundation to provide financial assistance for training. We are extremely lucky to have Eric training the team. His input at training camps is very important to the development of technique and box awareness. But his presence at the contest itself is vital if we are to give each pilot the best possible preparation before each flight. I can only say that his input immediately ahead of contest flights goes way beyond just technical coaching. He is mentor, tactician and sports psychologist. More importantly he is a team mate and that means a lot to all of us "Roast Beefs" as Eric calls us.

The prospects for the future are very good. We need to build on the team ethic for future contests and learn from our experiences in Granada. If we do this, I am sure that medals will follow.

See you all soon.
Best wishes,
Steve
