Morning,
Weather is rather marginal. 0830 briefing announced the general met
situation and that the next met briefing would be at 1000. The most the
organisation are hoping for is to fly the first 10 of the second unknown
today. This means the bottom 10 from the results so far as they have not
made a cut following the first unknown.Stephen
is preparing based on a southerly wind, which is pretty close to the
across-runway axis but over 20 knots. The limit is 24.
Today is also Team Manager Swap day. Richard arrived
last night and Pete departs on the lunchtime plane. Its a good job their
hotel room has two beds, I will check with the maid later to see if they
were both slept in.

Hello again
When they get wet weather in Formula 1, they change the tyres. When we
get wet weather at AEAC, we change our team manager. Seems
appropriate... Its now 1330 local and we are
about to have yet another met briefing. Not surprisingly, for anyone who
has been to Fenland, a bright early morning with moisture on the ground
and a wind with an easterly component usually means there is just time
to get the judging line manned before the low scud forms below the
higher overcast layer. In this respect, the East of Finland is very like
the East of England. So it is surprising that the English ex-pat met man
Robin failed to include this probability in his 0830 briefing. Perhaps
that is why he is an ex-pat met man, not on the telly with Michael Fish
and all those really accurate forecasters(?).
Any way. The warm-up pilot flew the low lines and had a crack at the
unknown, but Polish Pilot #1 took off and came straight back down again
because of the scud that was just forming. I can just hear the CD in the
background indicating that flying is now cancelled until next briefing
Friday morning!! Tomorrow they will organise some sightseeing and a
party. Otherwise we are on our own to explore Finland in the rain.
Will probably send some more pictures later, from the
hotel. Then you can expect very short blogs for a few days. Could any
Advanced pilots with an E300 or 300L to hand please find a gap in the
English murk and go fly that second unknown. Enter the spin at 3,300'
and make a note of the low points in the sequence? We need the data to
confirm out theoretical predictions. This is not
cheating, just research.....
