Contest Director's Report
With a fairly small field of nine entrants, in only two classes, Sports and Intermediate, we JUST managed to beat the approaching deluge and got a complete competition on Friday.
Buckminster Gliding Club generously allowed us the use of both their K21 and Perkoz, and Laura flew her own Pilatus B4. The smart yellow and black Super-munk tug kept going, in very hot conditions, breaking only to refuel, from noon, when cloud base had risen enough, to eight in the evening when the last of eighteen 4000' tows was done. A massive thanks to the tuggies, who worked so hard and efficiently.
The judges, Paul Conran (CJ), Charles Baker and Brendan O'Brien, worked a near super-human stint without a break to get all those flights done. An exceptional effort which made the competition a success. Thank you so much.
Merlin very selflessly opted not to fly but to operate the excellent new video camera, borrowed from the Power "lot". The results were brilliant and we would definitely like one for the Glider "lot" too!
As the scores show, the standard of aerobatic flying was really very good, and a pleasure to watch (with surprisingly few oh-no moments).
Saturday turned out just as predicted...wet...But it gave us the opportunity to have a video review, de-brief and discussion session in the morning. I think everyone agrees that this was tremendously worthwhile and should become a feature where possible.
Merlin presented the medals, and the trophy to the highest-scoring pilot over both sequences, Alex Philips. Well done indeed.
Thanks again to all at Buckminster Gliding Club for hosting us so nicely....may we come again in September for the Nationals please?
Happy Landings. Andy C
