Postponement of contests - Update 22nd June

Update 22nd June

Our review has concluded that the August contests are not possible under current guidance, so the following will apply:

8/08 - 9/08     RV event/Gunpowder Trophy       Leicester        CANCELLED

20/08 - 22/08  Junior Nationals  (SPO & INT)      Conington       POSTPONED

As restrictions start to ease we are hoping to run some one day contests, starting with the Tiger Trophy on 5th or 6th September at Leicester and to continue the season until the end of October. If multi-day events become possible we will look at whether it is possible to run the Senior and Junior Nationals then.

The glider team is monitoring the latest BGA advice and will update on the possibility of a Glider Nationals at Saltby on 3rd to 6th September as soon as possible.

Update 27th May

Following our review this week the contests planned for July will definitely not go ahead, as we consider that many pilots will not be fully up to speed and the government guidance still limits our ability to run a contest. We will be following any updates to this guidance carefully in the coming weeks.

10/07 - 12/07    The Saltby Open                       Saltby      CANCELLED     [We continue to plan for the Glider Nationals in September]

25/07 - 26/07    Fenland & McAully Trophies    Fenland   POSTPONED

Please watch the announcements here in about 4 weeks time for information concerning our planned August contests, including the Sports and Intermediate National Championships.

Update 26th May

WGAC/WAGAC also now deferred until 2021.

Update 10th May

Sadly CIVA has decided to postpone all Power championships for 2020 (EAC, WAAC and EIAC) and roll them on to 2021. A decision on the WGAC/WAGAC is still awaited. Here is their statement and a link to their site for future updates:

CIVA - Latest News (6th May 2020)

The 2020 EIAC, WAAC and EAC organising teams in Romania and the Czech Republic have now informed us that the local and world-wide Covid-19 lock-down situation presents problems beyond their ability to run these events securely and effectively on the approved dates, and in conjunction with the bureau of CIVA the decision has been taken to postpone them all to new dates in 2021.

Each organiser has been requested to prepare an updated document with their plans for the postponed events, including proposed new dates and any other key information that might require wider discussion prior to approval at plenary. At this stage there is no intention to seek alternative bids unless some unexpected issues arise with the information we receive.

For WGAC/WAGAC 2020 the Polish organisers have requested further time to consider the situation, and have assured us that a decision will be taken at the latest by the June 15th deadline that they have already set. As soon as we have some further news it will be published here and details will be distributed in the usual way.

Regarding future events that are already sanctioned for 2021 and 2022, discussions are underway to move all these events forward by one year to 2022 and 2023. Overall this is a difficult matter to resolve, but when we have secured final agreements this information will be posted here and circulated to all interested parties.

Update 23rd April

As part of our monthly rolling review we have now postponed the Golding-Barrett, Roy Legg & Duxford Trophies at Sleap on 6th/7th June and the Advanced and Unlimited National Championships at Sywell on 18th to 21st June.

We will be looking at the possibility of holding the Nationals later in the year if the government and sporting body advice indicates that is is safe to do this. Please keep returning to this page for periodic updates.

Stay Safe !

Common sense dictates that we avoid unnecessary gatherings and travel in the immediate future. We will postpone the Judging School and CD/CJ Seminar due to take place on 28th/29th March at Sywell

We are also postponing the contests at Dunstable (4th/5th April) and Breighton (18th/19th April). We will continue to review the calendar as matters evolve and also see if any rescheduling is possible for later in the season.

Stay safe and please follow the best advice on personal and group safety in the challenging weeks to come.
