Hi all,

We finished the 1st Unknown sequence here tonight. Ramon Alonso won the programme, with Renaud Ecalle second and Mikhail Mamistov third. I saw Mikhail's flight and it was excellent - a view held by many other pilots I talked to. It had accuracy, rhythm and was very well positioned. I didn't see Renaud's or Ramon's flight, but they must have been good to beat Mikhail.

The Brits Unknown sequence results were:
       Cooper 9th, Jefferies 11th, Cassells 20th, Onn 28th, Scrope 34th and Gee 44th.

A quick and no doubt inaccurate calculation by me, puts the Male Team Medals as
       France ~ Spain ~ Russia ~ USA ~ GB
About 300 points separate 5'th place from 3'rd, so we have some ground to make up if we are to get a team medal. The top three pilots from a country count to the medal, so we need Gerry, Mark and Tom to fly very well in the final Unknown if we are to overtake the US and Russian teams. Its going to be tough making up the ground, but it is possible.

Gerald flew the Unknown first and got a clean flight with good scores for all figures, but had three outs which dropped him a few places. Kester said that Tom's flight looked good from the flight line - I only saw some of Toms flight because we were preparing Mark to fly at the same time. Tom had four outs. Some low scores for the P-loop with 8-point roll cost Tom a lot of points. Mark flew very well, although he initially rolled out on the final figure, the rolling circle, but only to the extent that the figure was downgraded rather than zeroed. Mark only had two outs and positioned his sequence very well.

The outs and just one or two poor figures in sequences have cost the Brits points and places. However, its still a very impressive performance. Its excellent that Gerald is in the top 10. It would be nice to see all of our pilots improve their ranking in the final Unknown sequence. Its a tough competition, but its a World Contest, so it should be!

The plan for tomorrow is to fly the 4 minute Free, followed by drawing of the figures for the second Unknown. Monday will then be used to select and publish the sequence chosen by the Jury for the second Unknown. Tuesday and Wednesday will see the Unknown 2 completed.

We also have an airshow to look forward to on Sunday. Lots of jets and helicopters seem to be on the schedule. I'll let you know how it all goes!
Bye for now,

Steve
